This group of medals represents service under the Kingdom of Nepal, before the monarchy was abolished in 2008. Nepalese soldiers have a proud military tradition, notably in mountainous operations and international peacekeeping missions. The Himalayan Service Medal was awarded to recognize service in Nepal’s remote and rugged mountain regions. The Overseas Service Medal honors deployments outside Nepal, including in UN operations. The Ten Year Long Service Medal (dated 2023 in the Bikram Sambat calendar, corresponding to 1966 AD) celebrates a decade of faithful military service. The South Asia Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Medal commemorates Nepal’s contribution to regional cooperation in South Asia. The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) Medal was awarded to Nepalese troops who served in Lebanon under the UN peacekeeping mandate starting in 1978. Together, these medals reflect a Nepalese soldier’s career, combining national defense, regional diplomacy, and global peacekeeping efforts.
