Design Details:
Obverse:
Classic white-enameled Maltese cross, green oak and laurel wreath between arms, central gold medallion with profile of Marianne surrounded by a blue enamel ring reading "RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE".
Reverse:
Central medallion with crossed French flags and the date "1870", representing the 3rd Republic.
Suspension:
Gold laurel wreath and original red neck ribbon.
Condition:
Medal:
Visible enamel damage on the white cross arms as well as noticeable wear/loss on the blue enamel ring around the central medallion.
Ribbon:
Original red neck ribbon. One side has a broken thin tie ribbon, while the other tie is partially torn. The main ribbon remains displayable.
Box:
Original, marked "ETAB. A. CHOBILLON, PARIS". Interior and exterior show signs of age, but the hinge and clasp function well.
